I have posted on my CD Tower two discs with music by Bernard Herrmann.  Although he is best known as a composer of film scores, he composed some concert music as well.  These are CDs issued by the Unicorn-Kanchana label (now defunct I believe).  One contains orchestral works conducted by Herrmann, his Symphony #1 and a choral work titled The Fantasticks.  The other contains a clarinet quintet and a string quartet.

This is a mixture of jazz, new age, pop, folk, classical.

This set titled "Live on the Air" was released last year. � It was derived from tapes of a Trio performance that was done late in Guaraldi's career, in a studio but with a live audience. � I am listing it here because it is not in the CD database.

The pianist/composer uses the (for him) unusual live format to stretch out on a number of tunes, some originals (including some of the music he wrote for the Charlie Brown TV specials, his best-known work) and some standards.

The discs and packaging are in pristine condition. � 2 credits.

Verve (one of the big jazz labels) has a great series of samplers titled "Jazz 'Round Midnight".  Many unfortunately are out of print, but most of those can be picked up at Amazon for less than five dollars.  The series focuses on ballads, i.e. stuff on the slower and mellower side (though this is relative, and slow doesn't mean soporific).  Some collect performances by a single artist, others focus on a particular instrument (piano, saxophone, trumpet) or style (blues, big band, bossa nova).  They all have nearly an hour of music, & most of them are worth getting just for simple enjoyment, or as a starting-point to explore more music by a particular artist (both instrumentalists and singers are featured) or a musical style.

I have four discs on my tower, each with front and back inserts.  Discs are free of scratches.

I have a Super Audio CD of the classic album "Louis Armstrong Plays Fats Waller".  Front and back inserts are included.  I just received it from another club member who had posted it in his CD tower, so it is in fine condition.  1 credit.
