Each of the works contained on this compact disc were newly commissioned for an ensemble-clarinet, violin, and double bass-inspired by one of the great chamber works of the 20th century, Stravinsky's L'histoire du soldat. The composers who contributed to this project, including Matthew Nicholl, Yehuda Yannay, Mario Lavista, Leonardo Velazquez, Pablo Ortiz, and Patricia Repar, represent the Americas: Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The performers recorded here are all exceptional; of special note is the clarinetist Frankie Kelly, whose sumptuous tone and impeccable phrasing make her one of the young virtuosos on this instrument. The result is a recording with an international feel, born from the close collaboration of some of the finest musicians in the Americas today." Tapestry: New Music from the Americas M.
