"This seems to be a regular renaissance choral work, but Huelgas Ensemble has done it in a way that the work becomes far more interesting; they use different renaissance instruments for the different parts of the work, describing the different moods of the passion story. Instruments as recorders, viols, cornetts and sackbuts can be heard. Not only the instrumental part is good; the Huelgas Ensembles' singers are all extremely good and do master the genre. This Ensemble are probably one of the most gifted in the world. I can strongly recommend this, and also other recordings by Huelgas Ensemble and Paul van Nevel."
