"This is a phenominal album! It's become one of my standards and hasn't left my CD changer in five months. It has a great range of styles and artists but they blend wonderfully - great for parties. Some of it is really dancible, some more along the lines of super fun dinner party music. A great introduction to 1950's style funk / latin fusion. If you like Tito Puente or Babaloo or any ska band you must buy this album. Never mind the lack of samples, buy it anyway- you'll love it."
An amazing compilation

"This compilation is absolutlely amazing. Great to throw into your CD player and blast a few times over. You get the best of the musicians from this period, Joe Bataan, Tito Puente, Mongo, Harlem River Drive. It's funk, it's salsa, it's latin jazz, it's rhythm and blues and soul... and you definately get a feel for the creative energy driving the music of this period. The Brown Sugar CD from this same label is of equal quality. I can't say enough about it. A few of the songs were used in the sountrack for the movie Pinero with Ben Bratt. All the best CD's I've gotten of this type of music have been imports, so while it is a bit pricy, it's worth the money."
Spicy Funky Stew

"Deeply satisfying. Leave it to a Brit label to put together this series of classic, rump-shakin' boogaloo. This superb comp digs deep in the crates for the best moments of the late 60s/early 70s barrio sound: salsa meets Harlem funk. There isn't a weak moment here, so drop this at your next house party and even your rhythmless friends will be on the floor. Stickier than fine Corinthian leather on an August afternoon, 'chacho."
I cant believe I'm the 1st reviewer. Thats weak.

"This is hands down the best complilation anybody may ever buy. It is extremely rare. Buy it now while you can. It has many rare songs that are hard or imposible to find in thier own right along with two tracks (like "Broasted or Fried")that may not exist anywhere else. Why do I say this? Because I have an extensive rare music collection and I have looked for many albums related to this compilation only to find that they did not exist anymore. It is an album that will start an obsession within you. It was the dominoe that started a 300 album collection of rare or out of print music. Thats how good it is."
An ESSENTIAL

"I bought this album years ago, and loved it instantly. Usually when I dig an album so much its appeal fades quickly. Not so with this one. I've given it to many people over the years and EVERY, absolutely EVERY time they have loved it too. It's worth the money. If you like obscure "funky" music, this is filled with very rare gems that should never have faded off the charts. It's not the George Clinton style of 70's funk, it's late 50's and early 60's - the originals!"
