CD Reviews

Style a-plenty

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Very fun and unique music. I saw them live in Hollywood and was impressed enough to walk straight to register for a cd. I still play it semi-regularly in my car, which is saying a LOT about its value.
The music is sly, cheeky, playful and kitchy, but in illuminatingly colorful ways. It is sampled bauble that contiues to maintain attention cause it draws from a fund of Asian and media material. I always liked Big Audio Dynamite and Yello cause they didn't insult my ears with droning, un-nuanced structure. I don't like music makers who are self satisfied only with big hooks and mainstream songskulpting. Mix it up. Use funky instruments and incorperate exotic styles like Seksu does.
I don't think they have a big budget, but the cd sounds perfect for what it needs to do. Its why I like They Might be Giants in their beginning, and what happens if you can splice elements of the 50's 60's and 70's camp with Pacific Rim kooky beauty. Adept with esoteric samples, they know how to deftly incorperate them into inspired keyboard playing, and with clever woodwind flourishes, and eerie theremin enriching to boot.
If you like Stereolab, but want a more Eastern feel, these people will more than satisfy you. They made something one of a kind here, at least to this California boy!"
Just that! true future porn lounge music

"awesome cd...psychedelia dance type...i went to a college run radio station fundraiser show (kxlu 88.9). seksu roba was the best act and musical bliss all night. very entertaining, and genious use of the theremin. you know, its come a long way from the first time it was probably used in rock, brian wilson of the beach boys' "good vibrations". Get in on it!"
