"Red Ingle was an early member of Spike Jones' band who went on his own comedy path with "hillbilly" parodies of then-current pop songs. This Bear Family set collects most of his work from the late 40's and early 50's which is still funny if you're into the Homer & Jethro type of humor. Jo Stafford guests on a couple of tracks, showing her comic talents, but the best thing here is more a parody of an old-fashioned temperance lecture, "Cigareetes, Whuskey and Wild Wild Women" where Ingle and his troupe belt it out with operatic fervor. Fun stuff if you love the period."
Great parodies of popular songs of the 1940s

"Red Ingle/TIM-TAYSHUN. When I was a kid, I loved this music. Red Ingle and a friend--usually Jo Stafford--took mostly very nice songs and turned them into something else. "Temptation" was a real sexy and romantic song, but they made it sound just really corny. Some other music Red butchered were "Those Foolish Things" and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Song of India.""
How can you top this one?

"Absolutely amazing. If you like Spike Jones and tge City Slickers then you will love this one. Featuring the classic Cigareets and Whiskey and Wild, Wild Wimmen, then how could you fault this collection? Some tracks even feature Les Paul the designer of the classic guitar for Gibson who still pays the Iridium Jazz Club in Manhattan (I managed at last to catch him in May 2001, absolutely brilliant despite his arthritis which means that he can't quite play the runs he used to.)If you have a sense of humour at all then buy this CD and sit back and sing along or chuckle. How could any sensible music lover not ever own this CD - TimTayshun is wonderful!!"

"This one is a true classic.Red Ingle was the "weird Al Yankovic" of his day, parodying serious popular songs - sometimes even classical is thrown in: "Pagan Ninny" for Paganini. Delightful!I found out about this reissue while listening to "Weekend Radio," a syndicated comedy program. When I was a kid, my sister and I WORE OUT a 78rpm record of "Cigareetes, Whuskey and Wild Wild Women" and, after 40+ years, I was singing right along - that's a memorable piece of music.Once you've heard the title cut, "Tim-Tayshun," you just can't get it out of your head. Most folks today aren't old enough to remember the original (serious) versions of these songs, which is too bad.I would recommend this CD to anyone with a spunky sense of humor - it demonstrates the ridiculous tradition of which we are all so proud. Its style often resembles the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack - another bonus!"
Worth the effort and the expense

"I heard many of these songs on the Dr. Demento show in the '70s, back when the good Doctor played many old classic '78s. of course, the signature song of the album has already been mentioned in several reviews--"Cigareetes, whuskey and wild wild women." But "Pool," "two-Dollar Pistol," "Chew Tobacco Rag," and others got air play at that time. also my uncle, not telling me it was a parody, sent me "Tim-tation." My uncle and aunt got me hooked on Spike Jones when I was quite small, and Ingle, who was an early member of the band, is worth the trouble I've taken to find this CD. I saw it listed once, years ago, at a far higher price, and haven't seen it since, until just now, and I've gotten it. bluegrass fans and fans of funny stuff, rejoyce."
