More rumpunch please!

"Love the Merrymen. They make you want to grab a partner and dance with a few rum punch in your head. This music is unsynthesized: bass, electric guitar, drums, etc. Nothing grating on the nerves.

Here are my faves:

"Big Bamboo" - A demanding girlfriend who knows exactly what sort of 'wood' she wants.

"Sam Lord" - The wealthy Barbados pirate's fall from grace and into the hands of the Queen in England.

"Beautiful Barbados" - So romantic, I can just feel the chill of a night island breeze on a warm night.

"Ring Ting Ting" - Somebody's been promised some action-tonight and he's going to kiss and tell.

"Yellowbird" - Soothing Caribbean song to sing to a child. Also about lost love.

"Diddly Bops" - Cute ditty about West Indians who dilly dally on sidewalks, oblivious and uncaring to others who are trying to go about their daily business.

"The Girl Next Door" is a nostalgic interlude about rich girl/poor boy young love.

"You sweeten me" - A Caribbean man gives his girl some good lyrics.

"Calypso Medley" - For lovers of old time calypso. Biting, a little critical of older and washed up women, as it was.

The only one I don't like is "Something's gone wrong". Sounds too early Elvis. Calypso is perfection on its own. It doesn't cross well with American rock n' roll.

"I had this album on lp when I was a little kid and just wore it out. Fast, fun melodies a great calypso album - rich and full. Very nice vocals, crazy corny lyrics, very dancable."
