Rock Legend

"I was just in Salvador, where I discovered Cassia Eller through a friend. Lan Lan was the percussionist for Cassia, and was one of the last people with her, brought her to the hospital, just before her 4 heart attacks. A tragic death, at 38 from a mixture of depression, alcohol, and cocaine. A fitting death for a rock and roll legend, and the first musician I've heard worthy of that distinction since...well Frank Zappa. A voice as strong and pain-ridden as Janis', but she had an enormous repetoire from Bossa Nova to John Lennon & Jimi Hendrix, both of whom she covered a lot. So tragic, her career lasted only 10 years. And after death she's recognized as one of Brasil's greatest singers. Her last , post-humous record, "Dez de Decembro" is a masterpiece."
A Salvador da Bahia Carnival MUST...

"Okay, if you're on your way to Salvador da Bahia to celebrate "carnaval", be it this year or any other, you're gonna' need this CD or one very much like it in order to become familiar with some of the Carnival hits. The 2003 version is filled with the drum-beat of the songs from carnival that year, including the winning tune of Carnival that year, Margareth Menezes' "Dandalunda."

Whether you plan on becoming a group member and dancing to Timbalada or flitting from one trio elétrico to the next as "popcorn", listening to Ivete Sangalo, Netinho and other old soteropolitano favorites, you will love to have a CD like Axé Bahia to remember the good times later on. Another of the great ones on here is "A Luz de Tieta", probably played at carnival every year, so the CD is also good if you want to start memorizing those lyrics before hopping on the plane to Brazil. Fun for parties, too!"
