"All too often, jazz CD's require the listener to be blown away with the players' speed and technique or require a doctorate in music to understand what is happening musically, thereby excluding the person who listens to relax, to smile, to laugh, to just plain enjoy the music. This CD is definitely for the last types of listeners.
However, do not get me wrong, these players are all excellent Jazz musicians and showcase their talents and musicianship here. They just don't club you over the head with it! They encourage you to "Smile & Nod." It's about good music played very well. When they swing, they swing; when they funk, it's with the best of them.Mr. Smith and Mr. Lane both play with excellent command of their instruments with beautiful and educated sounds. Greg Smith makes an excellent argument for the bari sax in the jazz ensemble and in no way is it merely a cellar-dweller or a lumbering-leviathan, it is a saxophone that just happens to play lower than most of the others do!"
