CD Reviews

A Great Debut
KC | Charlotte, NC USA | 04/06/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"1. Intro-A simple intro, cool sounding2. Fire-A great way to start off the album with a very rockin track, features an insanely fast rap by Violent J of ICP in the third verse as well as a cool guitar solo. 3. Sunny Day-This is a unique song that sometimes is laid back and sometimes rockin out, but no matter what's happening it sounds great4. Prison Song-This is mostly accoustic until the end where it rocks out. Great concept and very well put together. This seems to be one of the favorites5. Fly -This veres are done by J and Shaggy of ICP with the chorus sung by Zug's singer, Syn. This is a very unique and interesting track filled with cool effects but still rocks out some. It would be very hard not to ejoy this one6. Suicide - A juggalo classic right here. It's a hard hitting rockin song that is very very catchy. And no, it's not saying suicide is a good thing or anything, just listen to it

7. Dreams - Very mellow and awesome. I haven't really heard a song like this before and just the way it's put together is amazing. The female Italian spoken word is a great touch

8. The River - This song has it all. It rocks, it has some good backround effects and guitar effects, catchy, and entertaining

9. Small Town -This features ICP. It's such an odd song but the chorus alone makes it probaby my favorite song on the album. The concept is great and allows for some hillarious lines. You won't ever want this song to end

10. Always - This is a song about havin a friend that means everything to ya and you'll always be there for them. The guitar work on this song is un real, I play guitar and I'm pretty good but I have no idea how to play this song. It's accoustic but also implements an almost hip hop type beat and other effects. Great singing (actually Syn's singing is great in every song, very powerful voice), and everyone can enjoy this one

11. Hiroshima- Just a great rock song. There's really no other way to describe it. The verses are laid back with some crazy vocal effects and the chorus is very catchy and rockin

12. Cry - This is becoming a popular song, and with good reason. It's a remake of Cry Little Sister by the Sisters Of Mercy, which you may have heard before. It has a female singer in the chorus with Syn and all the vocals are very well as this is a vocally demanding song13. SLAM! - A lot of people don't like this song. I will admit that I didn't like it when I first heard it but after a while I got used to it and now I rock along with it. It's pretty crazy. I haven't seen Zug in concert but I heard even from people who dont' like the recording lovin it live. It' sjust a crazy song to SLAM to

14. Synplicity- This features ABK, Blaze, and Jamie Madrox of Twiztid all layin down veres. The verses are half rap like with those 3 guys and the other half Syn comes in with some hard guitar singin along with it into the chorus which is also more rock than anything. Cool song, I love how it all comes together So overall this CD rocks. It's very diverse and the production is top notch. The lyrics are all very well thought out and written by Violent J of ICP, because this started as his project before the actual band Zug Izland was formed. Syn comes with a great voice and team that up with Mike P's song writing, guitar playing, production, and programming, you got a great album"

"You have got to buy this CD! There is no real way to describe the music correctly. It's a cross between punk/metal/industrial/rap. Zug Izland themselves describe it as TOXIC. The song, PRISON SONG is worth the pruchase of the CD itself. It is a song kind of in the style of Guns and Roses "I Used To Love her, But I Had To Kill Her", but better. This is going to be one of the CDs that just explodes into the mainsteam market. Buy it, you won't be sorry!"
Versatile Rock to the Fullest

"This album is amazing, Zug Izland seriously brings such an awesome and unique style to the table that many can appreciate. However, just because you like everyone else on Psychopathic Records does not mean you're gonna like Zug Izland...and just because you hate everyone else on Psychopathic Records doesn't mean you're gonnna hate Zug. They have their own style but are comparable to a Seether, Stain'd or even at times a Pearl Jam or Nirvana but they still keep their own flavor. Each member really stands out, especially Mike Peezy's guitar and production, Syn's unique voice, and I personally love Dan Miller's keyboard style. Violent J from ICP wrote the lyrics on here and had a lot to do with the project, proving he is more than just a one-dimensional rapper. The only complaint I have about this album is that I personally wasn't a big fan of "Small Town" since it's Southern Rock and I really don't like that stuff and even if I did, it's still a below average song musically. I also wasn't big on "Synplicity" since I felt too many guest appearances were crammed on the track and the rapping just didn't match the song. If it weren't for those two songs however, this would be a 5 Star Album in my eyes. The other tracks were awesome all-around, and the album even includes a cover of "Cry" from the Lost Boys soundtrack, which I personally like even more then the original. Check this CD out and you may very well be surprised."
