Album Description Taking its name from the 50-foot effigy burned every year by a hysterical mob during the Fiestas De Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Zozobra is the brainchild of Cave In/Old Man Gloom bassist Caleb Scofield. "Harmonic Tremors" deftly traverses the far-flung fields of transcendental space rock and explosive dirge metal with alternately snarling and oscillating riffery, crippling bass quakes, and apocalyptic proclamations hurled end over end toward the cosmic unconsciousness. The Dilettante | 09/28/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "Yeah, there are aspects of this record that fall in line with Isis and related projects, and it does have some continuity with Old Man Gloom, but distinguishing features make this a genre-bending record. First, the bass is really the lead on much of it. The squealing guitar solos are delicious, but they take a backseat to the fuzzy, distorted, driving bass lines. Second, there is almost nothing here that could be described as shoe-gazing. The songs are almost all up-tempo and emotionally upbeat, which is weird because there is a lot of screaming. At the same time, there are a lot of vocal harmonies and, not unlike the newer Cave-In records, these bits sound almost insectoid. But like the older Cave-In, it is HARD. Overall, a very fresh and inspiring record. I look forward to seeing them live."
