Synopsis

Product Description
After having been creating a minimal ambient sphere with "falling down fearless of bruises",and having kept tied links between dub and industrial in the album "itching". Then preserving an omnipresent low bass frequency, oscillating between click'n'cut, digital bones,a minimalist rhythmic and pulsed trance in "purr". Zonk't is coming back with a fourth album, which could be a synthesis of all of them. But one can at once recognize that "-trope" is a rhythmical album. If Laurent Perrier preserves his trademark, namely big dub bubbles, frictional clinking, mechanical repetition, high-pulse sequences, maintained tension, "-trope" manages to exude a clever syncretism of past and present works keeping its coldness by borrowing some elements from the elegant IDM, filtered and sophisticated (somersault), powerful and jerky rhythmic à la LFO (throb), saturated hip-hop/big beat drums on high tech microsound (disruption), motives sometimes more playfull (look.part.5), airial dubby cocoon (solar), pronounced melody, to end in a minimal electronic sound. The general feel of the album, different from his previous works, moves away from the dark industrial musicality, to lend it a more abstract, brighter and futuristic tonality, but still keeping its clinical cold effect. The compositions stay very precise, rather minimal, opening up more and more to bring out the texture and the topography of the sound without losing its continuous flow.
