""Zakarya's aim is to play contemporary improvised Jewish music that takes its inspiration from the tradition yet does not sound like traditional music", says the leader of Paris-based Zakarya, Yves Weyh. Indeed, tradition can easily be recognized in their music, but their approach is clearly closer to rock'n'roll and jazz improvisation. The inspired virtuosity of Alexandre Wimmer (guitars), Yves Weyh (accordion), Gautier Laurent (bass) and Pascal Gully (drums) reminds me of concerts of Vlatko Stefanovski and his brilliant (Macedonian) band Leb i sol at the height of their creativity. These guys are playing like they are possessed! The CD, their first, includes an hour of (instrumental) music. I am looking forward to seeing them in concert."
