From the reverb-drenched inspiration of Regulator Watts/Hoover to the bass and drums lock-groove perfected by Shellac and The Jesus Lizard, Young Widows gladly wear influences on their sleeve. The signature inventive guitar work is at its peak here, while the rhythm section lays down syrup-thick grooves, recalling The Melvins, Karp, and Nirvana as well as British post-punk a la Gang Of Four. Best described as post-punk. Tunes I found to be the most inspiring were the title track "Settle Down City", "The Charmers", the aggressive "Mirror F**ker" and "We Didn't Know". Didn't exactly knock me out, you understand it's JUST that this genre of music has been done over so numerous times before.
