Swoop G - World Don't Take Me Personally
Tha Realest | Greensburg, PA USA | 02/04/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"After his debut album, "Undisputed" in 1997, Swoop G didn't waste no time recording a follow-up, "World Don't Take Me Personally" released the following year.

1. Feet Up (Featuring Black Rain) - Nice hard beat, Swoop and Black Rain both come correct, hook fits perfectly with the beat, great track - 5/5

2. Not to be F***** Wit [Ryder Version] - Another hard beat, Swoop brings the heat, good hook, another awesome track - 5/5

3. I Do Need You - Alright beat, Swoop raps fast and sounds pretty impressive, sort of radio friendly hook which isn't bad at all - 4.5/5

4. World Don't Take Me Personally (Featuring 2Pac & 2 Scoops) - Not feeling the beat, 2Pac has a great verse followed by Swoop which doesn't disappoint, but the hook is straight up horrible - 3.5/5

5. Busta's [Ryder Version] (Featuring Lil' C-Style) - Beat is above average, Swoop and Lil' Style spit some hard rhymes even though Lil' Styles verse is almost exactly the same as on "Easy to Be a Soldier When There Ain't No War" track on the Chronic 2000, also the hook is hard - 5/5

6. My Life - Really diggin the beat, Swoop raps kinda slower but its still good, hook is good as well - 4.5/5

7. Have Mercy (Featuring Bernni Mack & 2 Scoops) - Horrible beat and hook, this song isn't even worth listening to - 1/5

8. 20 Dollars - Decent beat, Swoop raps real slow again, hook is slow as well...These slow tracks don't really grab my attention - 3/5

9. Simpin' ain't the Pimpin' (Featuring Poppa L.Q.) - NICE beat, Poppa and Swoop both come sick on this joint, hook is good - 4.5/5

10. Mob S*** (Featuring Luniz, 3xCrazy, & Cydal) - Another great beat, All 7 rappers spit the realness, good hook....a great multi-collaboration - 5/5

11. High as a Kite - Horrible beat, Swoops flow and lyrics are nice, the hook samples N.W.A's "She Swallowed It" and "Just don't Bite It", not really feeling it though - 3/5

12. Gangsta S*** - Good beat, really feeling Swoops verses and lyrics, hook is alright - 3.5/5

13. Soldier's Prayer (Featuring Cydal) - Nice beat, Cydal and Swoop both spit some deep ish, good hook to go with the mood of the track - 5/5

Overall: 47.5/65

3.5 Stars

Swoop G really surprised me with this album. It contained a couple classic tracks and had some of the best production on a West Coast album. Can't wait till he makes his return and puts out his new record in 2005-2006.

"(Young) Swoop G delivers a solid album. It has a few songs that are on his 1997 "Undisputed" album but has a few new ones. He has some of the tightest beats on a few tracks and he can flow pretty well. Production is mostly by Bosko (6 songs), Ali Malek did 4, Swoop G did 2, and the Gov did 1. The Long Beach Native gets on fellow LBC dwellers (and former homies) Kurupt, & Snoop Dogg, as well as Nas. It has 2 classics, 2 skippable songs, 2 ok songs, and the others are very good or great. Although he is mostly unkown, this album should not be slept on as it's very solid, and if you like the west coast/LBC type of a rap it's a must have CD.

#1 - 10 (classic f/ Black Rain 0 tight beat)

#2 - 10 (another classic w/ a great beat - gets on Kurupt & Nas)

#3 - 9.5 (another solid song - slower though)

#4 - 8.5 (f/ 2Pac & 2 Scoops)

#5 - 9 (f/ Lil C-Style - gets on Snooop - C-Styles verse is almost the same as the one he has on "Chronic 2000" "easy to be a soldier...")

#6 - 7

#7 - 7.5 (f/ 2 Scoops)

#8 - 6.5

#9 - 9 (f/ Poppa LQ - great beat)

#10 - 9 (f/ 3X Crazy {Bart, Agerman, Keak da Sneak}, Luniz {Yukmouth & Numskull}, & Cydal)

#11 - 5

#12 - 8

#13 - 7.5 (f/ Cydal)
