CD Reviews

This album deserves 10 STARS, not just 5!!!
G. Jones | 12/06/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I just CANNOT believe no one on Amazon.com has reviewed this incredible album yet!!!! This has to be one of the BEST jazz offerings of 2004!!! Every track on here is INSPIRATIONAL, SOLID, and just a joy to listen to. For a group this young, their sound shows potential to change the face of jazz forever, I feel! Just when you think they're about to go over the edge with their improvisations, they bring it back from the precipice of chaos, EACH TIME. It's amazing how they react to each other in every song.

Particularly, I recommend Yenne, Spider Walk, and Giant Steps, but EVERY song delivers. Jazz fans of all types will NOT be disappointed!!"
Great Jazz Album Full of the Energy of Youth

"I picked this album up after being blown away by the incredible drummer of this band Ronald Bruner Jr. at a recent Scott Henderson show in Los Angeles. I was only expecting to be impressed by the drumming here but lo-and-behold the whole album is a stone-cold classic with superb originals and even better covers. The rest of the guys in the band are equally awesome players with really refined taste in what they play. When these guys call themselves the Young Jazz Giants, they're not just being cocky, they can back it up. This album proves it. These young musicians have a depth and combined balance of intellectual & rooted street-level passion for their art form that I only wish cats much older than them would have every once-in-a-while. This whole record is organic, from the roots up, does not sound manufactured like so many others. Let's hope they can keep this up for more records to come."
You have been Brunered.

"Like a reviewer before me, the only reason I even looked into this album was because I saw The Ron Bruner Jr. play with the Scotts (Scott Henderson and Scott Kinsey) in LA and I was forever changed after that glorious moment. I had seen some very good to very great drummers in my days... but this... this was magical. It took some convincing by a friend for me to even make the 2 hour trip to see this guy, after all, how good could some "22 year old from LA" be. Well let me tell you just how good he can be... the Michael Jordan of Drumming... the Wayne Gretsky of Drumming... the "Total Eclipse of the Heart" of Drumming. Yes, I know, you're asking "How can anyone or anything be THAT good?!?" The answer, I don't know, and I don't care. I just sit back and enjoy the ride... over and over and over again. If I could play the drums like RBJ, I would never stop drumming. If I could play the drums half as good as RBJ, I would never stop drumming. I give this album 7 stars out of 5. I recommend it to the tall, the small, the fat, the skinny, the old, and the young. However, if you ever get the chance to see him live... do it. He is the best, and that's no lie. If you disagree, I will fight you."
