Synopsis

Album Description
"2003 has been an astonishingly strong year for Canadian indie rock...[but] it is Young and Sexy, with their facetious moniker and their relaxed, breezy brand of twee pop, who really emerge as one of the best bands their country has to offer...an innocuous charmer, this album is as pretty as anything you'll hear these days." - PopMatters In the summer of 1998, friends and former lovers Paul Hixon Pittman and Lucy Brain were contemplating starting a band. Over the next year, Young and Sexy began making a name for itself playing local Vancouver venues. After several years and many lineup changes, the band was asked to headline the western portion of the CBC Radio 3 Connect the Dots tour in April-May 2004. The tour was a great opportunity for the new band to find its sound and hone new material for their third album, Panic When You Find It. Recorded in bits and pieces between October 2004 & April 2005, Panic is an eclectic affair but is also their most consistent and unified artistic statement. The band has internalized their wide range of influences, and captured a live feel that was missing on earlier albums.

CD Reviews

Really wanted to love this album...

"Why I cared to buy this album: A few years back, Young and Sexy came thru Houston and opened for the New Pornographers and put on a great performance. When I see a band perform and don't know of their work, it takes a lot to grab my attention. I was enthralled. The album I took home that night is one of my all time favorites (Stand Up for Your Mother). An album so well done that when I listen to it, I remember the smell of the air from the first time I listened to it at home...

With their third album, Young and Sexy fail to deliver for a second time. I am not looking for another just like their debut - but I do want to see an extension of the promise of that album. It certainly has a few good moments, and the last tract demands immediate repeated listening, but all in all, Young and Sexy is not delivering the same clever, beautiful music that they started off making. Maybe if they would have condensed some of the concepts of this album, and took another year to develop additional material would it really impress.

This is a great band - fall in love with their debut and reach for this when you've burned thru that and need just a tad bit more."

"Who is Young and Sexy?... well search me! All I know is they are a Vancouver band, a marvel in concert, and "Panic When You Find It" is my favoutite album. Its been 7 months since my first listen, and no other album keeps me so satisfied.

Live they sound virtually like the Album. They are so focused on the music, its like watching a jazz band. The harmonies, and guitar work leave you spell bound. How do these guys stay so tight?... I have no idea, they barely tour! Buy their album so the poor sods can tour!

Hands down this is their best release. Mint Records Rocks and Pops!"
