CD Reviews

Two Gibson masterpieces now on one (budget) CD.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"The selections on this CD were originally released on two RCA Living Stereo LPs, one bearing the present "Witches' Brew" title, the other as a collection of ballet music from Gounod's "Faust" along with Bizet's "Carmen Suite." The last of these has been omitted from this collection, but there is enough here to keep you mesmerized for a full hour.

Audiophiles regard these recordings highly, both for the quality of sound and the excellent performances. It is noteworthy that two long out-of-print CDs containing this music routinely sell for more than $100 each whenever they come up for sale. The sound quality on this reissue is so close to these previous issues that it should leave those who want the recordings quite satisfied.

Strongly recommended."
