"The second single from PJ Harvey's masterpiece IS THIS DESIRE?, "The Wind" is wonderful. This disc is the second in a two-part series. PJ Harvey is definitely music you listen to in the dark, and "The Wind" is the reigning queen of darkness. Filled with eerie whispers of children's voices and torture on the wheel, the title track has a sharp beat throughout the song and the guitars and keyboards, mixed with Polly's vocals and whispers, give the song a lush atmosphere of its own. There are also two b-sides on the single: "Rebecca" and "Instrumental #2". The second track, "Rebecca", is a haunting tale beautified by piano, guitar, and a fine beat reminiscent of "Catherine" from IS THIS DESIRE? It is a delicious track and I don't know why it was not on the album. The third, simply titled "Instrumental #2" sounds more like PJ was fooling around on the guitar and someone hit the record button accidently. It's good to listen to on occasion, but I find myself skipping it often. Overall, this single should be in every PJ Harvey listener's CD rack. I give this single 4 stars."
