Synopsis

Album Description
Ocean Concert is especially made for relaxation and meditation, featuring the naturally relaxing sound of the quiet surf carefully recorded on location to bring forth the true harmony of nature. In addition to the natural sounds of the ocean, this CD uses a technology called "binaural beats." These added tones can't be consciously heard, yet they influence the brain waves, creating a deep state of relaxation.

The Amazing Hemi-Medi Ocean Concert CD
James Hurley | QLD, Australia | 09/09/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Hemi-Medi Ocean Concert is far more than just a CD of the sounds of the ocean. The Amazon Album Description does not do this CD justice. There are four reasons you should buy this CD:

1) Binaural Beats

2) Bilateral Stimulation

3) No tape looping

4) It works

1) Binaural Beats

Discovered by biophysicist Gerald Oster in New York City. Oster discovered that when different sound frequencies are delivered to the brain separately through each ear, the two hemispheres of the brain function together to "hear" not the external sound signals, but a third phantom signal. This signal is called a binaural beat and it pulses at the exact mathematical difference between the two actual tones.

So, for example, if, simultaneously, a signal of 100 hertz per second entered your left ear and a signal of 109 hertz per second entered your right ear, what you would actually perceive is a rhythmic beating at 9 hertz per second. Research results show that first parts of the brain and, eventually, large areas of the brain begin to resonate sympathetically with this "phantom" binaural beat. What this means is that you can cause your brain to entrain to certain frequencies. Since these frequencies are associated with certain responses by the body and brain.

Since it is irritating to hear two tones in your ear the producer of this CD has hidden the frequency tones in the sounds of the ocean. So while your are listening to nice relaxing ocean waves the tones are working on your brain waves! This CD will decrease beta brain waves (thinking and concentration) and increase theta (deep relaxation), delta (sleep) and alpha waves (relaxation, creativity and turning the attention within).

Within minutes, the sound frequencies start to balance the left and right hemispheres of your brain - creating a remarkable state called hemispheric synchronization. Scientists have noted that this rare phenomenon was accompanied by flashes of creative insight, euphoria, intensely focused concentration, deep calm, and enhanced learning abilities. This CD will also synchronize the brain waves of the left and right hemisphere.

2) Bilateral Stimulation (EMDR)

As a method to aid recovery from trauma, EMDR involves the reliving of prior traumatic experiences during the simultaneous application of rhythmic bi-lateral stimulation. This is often achieved through inducing bilateral eye movements. It can also be achieved through the use of bilateral sounds, specific bilateral music or gentle taps. During the bilateral stimulation, clients are guided to connect to memories, thoughts, feelings or somatic sensations that relate to their past traumatic experiences. The aim is through the use of bi-lateral stimulation to integrate images, deeply seated beliefs and memories. EMDR can be an especially helpful method when people have difficulties talking about or releasing past traumatic experiences.

This CD has a natural Bilateral Stimulation since the ocean waves go from left to right to left. The producer of the CD actually spent a long time finding just the right spot on the beach where this effect occurred naturally.

3) No tape looping

This CD is made from one single recording. This means that not once in one hour of sound will you hear exactly the same sound twice. This CD sounds wonderfully real and never gets boring because you hear the minute changes in the sounds, like you were at the beach.

4) It works

I have used this CD both to process traumatic experiences as well as an aid to sleep as well as simply for relaxation and can attest that in my experience it works.

Please Note: If you plan to use this CD for treatment of a serious psychological problem or very traumatic experience like war, violence or sexual abuse I would strongly suggest that you first do a lot of research on EMDR or even better go to a EMDR therapist for treatment.

Relaxing and energising

"After trying many different types of relaxation CDs I am so happy to have discovered the Hemi-Medi Ocean concert. The sound of the ocean has always been very secial to me, I just love drifting away to the sound of the waves breaking on the beach. After 15 minutes listening to the CD I feel refreshed and energised. The combination of nature sounds and binaural beats definitely works for me."
Perfect sound & relaxation!

"I keep this CD handy and play it several times a day. It is relaxing and invigorating at the same time, much like the ocean itself. This recording captures the sound of the ocean as well as the typical rolling of the sound across the field of hearing, from right to left and back again. This is what happens when I'm really at the beach, and it's great to have that effect on a recording. Great for working or meditating."
