Album DescriptionWhether they be shanties or contemporary songs with the sea as a theme, Pint and Dale perform the traditional work songs sung aboard the tall ships to organize the labor of the crew. Those crews were English, Irish, German, French, from the West Indies, the United States and other sea-going nations, but the music itself was inspired by the oceans that link all these places together and cover two thirds of our planet. They take all of this as a source of inspiration - giving it their own spin with guitar, hurdy-gurdy, mandolin and other exotic sounds. The result is an unusually energetic and exciting approach to folk music. This duo is equally comfortable in acoustic and electric modes, with the former predominating on this disc. They sing strong, clear harmonies, often multiplied by overdubbing, and, in addition to Pint's steady guitar accompaniment, their sound is defined by Dale's squalling hurdy-gurdy, an unconventional sound in sea music but a wonderful adaptation of one tradition.
