CD Reviews

You may not like this... But then again, you just might!

"Well, I know, the review title sounds like a total no-brainer. But in this case I don't think it is... Well, there are two things you should consider: 1. The texts of the five songs on this Maxi CD are (as all other songs by this band) in German. And in this case the texts are very important, so you really should think about ordering 'Deine Augen' if you don't speak German. 2. Even if you understand some German and are into underground electro music, you still might not like it. Honey and A.L.F.'s (yeah, that's what those two guys call themselves) music, done mostly on Commodore 64s (!), is a kind of electro-pop-style that some might find too, ahem, 'nice', and at the same time too weird. It ain't the EBM style that fans of other European electro bands like Funker Vogt love, and it's neither as bombastic as VNV Nation nor as melancholic as Covenant. However, I do not want to keep you from purchasing this Maxi CD, because I personally love it (and practically everything else coming from Welle: Erdball). Also, at least in Germany the band is much liked in the underground / goth scene, so it's not only me. If you are interested in electro and don't only love distorted voices and full-speed-dancefloor-tracks you should give it a try, really. It truly is not everybody's idea of great electronic music, so you might regret buying this CD... But, come on, no risk no fun! You can afford spending eleven bucks, can't you? Oh, and here's the track listing: 1. Deine Augen (the best track, a really nice electro-love-song) 2. Arbeit adelt! (great dancefloor track with superb lyrics) 3. Wir wollen keine Menschen sein (good as well, but unfortunately the female lyrics are too pseudo-funny - but still not too bad) 4. Electrosmog (as 'pop'py as it gets, but if you don't mind that very nice) 5. Der Telefonanruf (the weirdest track which once again shows that, despite the pop appeal, Welle: Erdball's music often is very experimental)"
