"Mr. Las Vegas gives us Wayne Newton's major hits and more as he performed them in Las Vegas and in many other locales. This is NOT a live album as some of the "Las Vegas" albums are with other artists that look so similar to this CD; but there are two bonus live tracks at the end of the CD recorded live when Wayne Newton did them in Hollywood.

"Danke Schöen" starts the album off with Wayne's signature song; and he never misses a beat. "Strangers In The Night" features Wayne at his best; and his excellent diction enhances his performance. Great! The brass on "Strangers In The Night" works well; and listen also for "They Can't Take That Away From Me." Wayne sings this with panache and I really like this number.

"Volare" is another great song by Wayne although "Toot, Toot, Tootsie, Goodbye" doesn't fit in with the rest of these ballads--even with its jazzy rendition.

"Call Me Irresponsible" puts Wayne squarely in the spotlight and the arrangement for the piano is really sweet. "I've Got The World On A String," a Harold Arlen masterpiece, shines beautifully in Wayne's capable hands. In addition, there's also "L-O-V-E," a tune made famous by Nat King Cole; and Wayne sings it so well you just know Nat would be proud.

"I Left My Heart In San Francisco" gets the royal treatment from Wayne Newton with a great arrangement for the brass and percussion; and the album end with two live tracks. Of these, I especially enjoy "You're Nobody `Til Somebody Loves You." "Mack The Knife" is also very good. These two live tracks were recorded at The Crescendo in Hollywood.

Wayne Newton never fails his adoring audiences; he entertains very well and strong to this day.

Thank you, Wayne!

"Wayne Newton's MR. LAS VEGAS! is a very enjoyable cd and showcases some of Newton's standards (at least I assume they're his standards).

I'm not really a fan of Newton but I like the song "Danke Schoën" [that I heard in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off Bueller...Bueller... Edition (Special Collector's Edition)], which I always thought was sung by a woman. Anyway that song is available on this collection.

All of the songs are swinging big band type songs and Newton is in fine voice, high and ringing, and at times sounds very much like a female. Not that I mind, because I love high pitched singing voices.

Anyway, if you're a fan of Newton's then you probably already have this cd and if you like that big-band-lounge-lizard-"Ocean 11"-sound then you'll definitely enjoy this cd.
