CD Reviews

Short--but oh, so sweet !!!

"Moods & Moments is a fine CD by Wayne Newton. Wayne's voice is in excellent form throughout the album; and the songs he sings here are very pretty and very well arranged. The quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is nice, too.

"I Know So" starts the album with a rockin' tune that has a strong country twist to make it a very solid number. This is anything but elevator music! Wayne sings with lots of feeling and his excellent diction enhances his performance. This is a great number for dancing and I'm sure you will enjoy it. There's also "Vital Signs;" "Vital Signs" has an elegant melody that is very sensitive at the same time. Wayne sings this with passion and great sensitivity; and "Vital Signs" is easily a major highlight of this album.

"Little Bits And Pieces" tugs at my heartstrings whenever I hear it; and the country flavor of this soulful ballad works wonders. The violin is great and the musical accompaniment for Wayne's vocals couldn't be better. It shines without ever drowning out Wayne as he sings this to perfection--and beyond! "Old Loves Never Die" is another tender ballad only this time the guitar is used to great advantage. Wayne Newton sings this with all his heart and soul; and this impresses me very much. This is a touching song that I predict you'll enjoy very much; and it proves so well just how talented Wayne Newton remains in our time. He was anything but a one hit wonder!

"At This Moment" features Wayne front and center--and that's quite all right by me! Wayne does a fantastic cover of this song and his rendition is probably THE definitive rendition of "At This Moment." Similarly, "The Music That We Made" shines brighter than silver and gold together when Wayne tackles this so masterfully! The backup chorus bolsters Wayne's performance--not that he ever needed it, mind you; but it does sound good. "Play It Again Sam" is a love song with lots of passion as Wayne sings this song to remember a love affair when he was so very young.

"She's My Saturday Night Special" is another masterful tune sculpted by Wayne Newton into a masterpiece as he delivers this flawlessly; and the album ends strong with Wayne Newton performing "The (Elvis) Letter." "The (Elvis) Letter" is a stunning ballad with a very pretty melody; and Wayne easily aces this like the champ he was and still remains!

Wayne Newton fans will love this for their collections; and people who like love songs will appreciate this album, too. It's a bit short but every number is a winner!

"I was not a Wayne Newton fan by any means until I heard the single track "I know so" from this cd on the Roseanne series(1988-1997) where Dan and Rosie go to Las Vegas to see their idol, Wayne Newton. The song is as catchy as an early Paul McCartney tune but with the country flavor that only Wayne can add. On "Moods & Moments", you'll find some songs from the heart such as "Little bits and pieces" and "The Letter". I always thought that Wayne was just Las Vegas material until I listened and came to see that this man has alot to offer. This cd is packed with some mellow songs that Wayne sings with all his might ("At this moment") and belts out some tunes with serious gusto. Who would of known? I didn't. Now I am a Wayne Newton fan."

"Just got back from Las Vegas and finally got to see Wayne in person. My 21 year old daughter and I had front row seats to see him at The Stardust. What a show!!!! He looks fantastic and sounds wonderful!!!! He did not sing any songs from this CD but as I listen to it now, I realize it is one of his best! Classic Wayne!"
