Wave Field was recorded and released on a small Portugese label but wasn't heard by most until its release by Drag City in 1998. The cover to the disc explicitly suggests My Bloody Valentine, but this is no shoe-gazing exercise; there are no songs per se on this record, just drones and tones overlapping in ambient bliss. Toral harnesses the purest elements of guitar-induced feedback to create dreamy, woozy, unreal music that sounds best when played ear-bleedingly loud. --Mike McGonigal
