"I first listened to Pege Aladar live in Ankara/Turkey when I was a little boy, may be 7 or 8 y.o. I was completely hypnotized. He would look straight into your eyes and improvise with incredibly expressive face. Another unique and impressive thing was he would not only play the strings where you would normally struck them but also below the bridge and elsewhere. He would use his fingers as well as the bow and sometimes tap the back and the sides of his instrument. Very creative, original, melodic and a great warm tone with natural, minimal amplification. I was so impressed that I named my 6 week old siamese kitten Pege. I hope Mr. Aladar won't mind. :-) Since than I moved to US and here no one seems to even know his name. After 3 decades I still love his music and have been collecting his albums. I recently bought this album on vinyl and fell in love with his music once again. This is also the first time I heard Walter Norris, and he is just as musical and expressive as Pege Aladar. The two instruments are seemless. In some ways traditional, in some other ways modern. This album is pure jazz at it's best."
