Album Description

The final installment in Kent's trilogy of CDs featuring the complete surviving OKeh, Columbia and Epic masters finds Walter Jackson in New York in 1967-68, recording what many consider to be the best material of his entire career. Walter's repertoire ranges from his definitive readings of the UK Walker Brothers hit `My Ship Is Coming In' and the Bacharach-David perennial `The Look Of Love', via the staggering `suicide' song `The Bed' to the Big City soul of `No Butterflies'. These, Walter's other single-only releases from the period and the whole of his original OKeh album "Speak Her Name" are compiled here to produce a fitting finale to a wonderful series of CDs . Virtually none of these tracks has ever appeared on a UK CD before. Two have never been released in any form - indeed, `Forget The Girl' was mixed down from the multi-track especially for this CD. Walter Jackson is exactly the sort of artists that Kent UK buyers can't wait to lay down their money for. If anyone has ever deserved the "Kent" treatment, it's Walter.

"I am a true Walter Jackson fan. I truly believe he has one of the best voices of all time. When I play his CDs on my Bose, it souunds like he is in the room singing to me with his smooth voice. I totally LOVE this CD, and I believe others will as well! It is certainly worth the investment."

"Not as strong as his previous 2 (Two) albums for Okeh that have Reissued on Ace (With Bonus Tracks!), This last installment did include 4 (Four) Billboard Charted Singles: "It's An Uphill Climb From The Bottom" (#11), "After You There Can Be Nothing" (#40), "A Corner In The Sun" (#46), and "Speak Her Name" (#22). With the exception of 1 (One) Carl Davis produced Track (Recorded in Chicago) dates from 1965, This album featured 9 (Nine) Ted Cooper (Recorded in New York) produced Tracks from 1966. ALL of these Tracks were on the 'Original' Vinyl Album and were culled from previous released Singles with the exception of 1 (One) Album-Only Track entitled: "She's A Woman", Thus giving you a total of 10 (Ten) Tracks!. This album overall consisted of the standard sounds of the Mid 60's. On this EXPANDED Edition you get 10 (Ten) BONUS TRACKS! Well really 9 (Nine) because they (Ace Records) included a 2:28 MONO Version of "Funny" on this collection...WHY? When you can get the 4:08 STEREO Version on the "It's All Over" Compact Disc (See my Review on this Album).

The awesome Bonus Tracks are: "My Ship Is Coming In" which should have been a Billboard Charted Hit Single, But that's a question we'll never know the answer to. The same goes with "Road To Ruin". The surprised Unreleased find is:

"Forget The Girl". On this gem Walter is singing at his hardest ever! Why this wasn't 'Originally' released will be one of soul collectors unanswered questions, but 40 years later our ears get the ultimate treat!!! The disc ends with a track entitled: "Ad Lib" on this track we get to hear a bluesy side of Walter. In closing these bonus Tracks could have easily been a 4th Walter Jackson album, easy! Well worth buying, especially if you have the previous 2 (Two) Walter Jackson Compact Discs on Kent (Ace Records).

Now if Ace Records can give Walter Jackson this kind of treatment of his Okeh recordings can you imagine what they could do with Joe Hinton (Back Beat recordings), Buddy Ace (Duke recordings), Carl Carlton (Back Beat recordings)? ACE RECORDS...ARE YOU READING THIS?
