CD Reviews

Turn it UP
06/19/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Found this CD in a shop in some tiny used CD shop in the outskirts of Tokyo. It's a party album much like Live at Max's Kansas City (the re-issue) is, but this one is better, much better. There isn't much else to say other than buy this CD, buy some beer, turn up the stereo, and annoy your neighbors who are boring enough, most likely, to be upset with music that kicks back and stands up to be counted."
Herr Luhr Aging Well

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Walter Lure, late (a word used too often in another more tragic context about the band) of the Heartbreakers, scores well here. This is a solid record, filled with his usual mischief and freshly-stropped guitar. It's so great to hear "Seven Day Weekend" and "Countdown Love" properly produced and executed. (Andy Shernoff of the Dictators conjures a nicely thick and simultaneously sharp sound.) Recommended listening for Lurians and mourning (eternally, like me) Thundersians."
Heartbreakers spirit is still alive, even if Johnny isn't...

"People forget that Walter Lure was an equal partner in the Heartbreakers, sharing vocals, guitar and songwriting duties with Johnny Thunders. Given that fact, it's no surprise that this is a very good album, with at least 2 great songs. "Crybaby" is simply a classic - a near equal of "Brown Sugar," "Personality Crisis," or any other landmark rock'n'roll tune. "Golden Days" is the other great one, a country rocker in the same vein as "Dead Flowers."Any NY Dolls, Heartbreakers or Stones fan should own this. You won't be disappointed."
