"The best singer/songwriter you never heard"

"Liz Meyer was a main figure in the "newgrass" and country rock scene in Washington DC during the 1970's, though she has since emigrated to Holland. Womanly Arts provides an excellent collection of the kinds of country/bluegrass/folk/rock originals and covers that Liz does so well. Liz pens songs that are unique yet draw substantially on the conventional elements of country and folk, and this disk features her wonderful alto, a vocal register seldom heard in country music. Helping out on the CD are some of the best national and DC area pickers and vocalists, including Liz's ex-roomie Emmylou Harris, ex-bandmate the late Danny Gatton, Jonathan Edwards, Bella Fleck, David Grisman and many others. Standouts are the original "Dreams Have Endings" and the cover of Eric Anderson's folk classic "Close the Door Lightly" long one of her standards in live performance. The only drawback with the disk is that Liz has written many wonderful songs not included here. Hopefully this record will give her talents some of the attention they have long deserved."
