It Blew Me Away

"Having lived in Central Illinois for the last thirty years, after three years in Chicago as a student, I must plead ignorance of the current Chicago jazz scene. My quite large collection of jazz CDs (over 2,500) for some reason did not include many of the current Chicago musicians. Having heard of Von Freeman I read a review of this album on the Internet (AMG site), I then purchased it. Since I tend to shy away from "free jazz" I was astounded with everything about this album. I have played it numerous times today (It arrived today) and am bowled over by the the first tune "The Thin Line." Having been fore-warned about Mr. Freeman's unusual tone, I didn't know what to expect. From the first tune to the last, I fell in love with his sound and the voice of Joanie Pallatto. I highly recommend this to any serious jazz fan and fully agree that Von Freeman has been neglected by the jazz public for many years. Everyone on the CD certainly has my attention from this point forward."
Prime Vonski

"As I've said in another review, Freeman is perhaps the most compelling musical performer I've heard: this album is amongst his very best.

My other 2 Vonski favorites are The Improvisor (still available on CD Improvisor) and Serenade & Blues (now readily available on CD from Downtown Music Gallery and Amazon.com.)"
