"These two CDs show clearly that Vivaldi was a genius of composition even from the beginning. They also show that Vivaldi chose to experiment and to grow as a composer. As the Amazon review says his earliest sonatas followed those of Italian composers. These sonatas even though influenced by previous generations still stand out on their own for their beauty. Most of the movements are in the for of dances popular in the baroque. The second CD shows Vivaldi at his best. These sonatas wiith the haunting melodies are hard to forget.
The London Baroque gives their all to every sonata. I can't imagine a bettter performance.
These works despite being Vivaldi's first deserve a wide audience. That is to say I recommend these CDs to not just Baroque or Vivaldi lovers--they belong in the collection of all classical music lovers."
