CD Reviews

Vyktoria enchants the soul
Jomo Mojo | Cleveland, OH | 06/29/2003

"Vyktoria Pratt Keating is a thinking person's music goddess. She writes amazingly fresh, creative songs, plays her acoustic guitar like it's a whole orchestra, and sings with a heavenly voice. Blue Apples, her first recording, is rich with enchantment and delight. My favorite songs on this disk are "Buffalo" and "Rough Draft." "Buffalo" is a beautiful song that successfully evokes the spirit of America's Old West, white and Indian together, with a touch of the Goddess spirit over all. "Rough Draft" is a lively, witty, fun portrait of an undaunted woman. "NYC 10/11/91" is an achingly tender nonlove ballad. "Shoot for the Moon" brings out her mysterious side. Vyktoria has a refreshing talent for songwriting outside the box of conventionality. If you like the sound of Kate Bush's singing, Vyktoria's voice will appeal to you too. Just like Kate Bush songs, Vyktoria's songs showcase the beauty of her voice while painting interesting musical pictures of states of the soul. Vyktoria sings with a strong, warm, velvety smooth tone in the medium-high register, a rare and sweet quality characteristic of Kate Bush and Lata Mangeshkar and few other singers.Vyktoria expanded her musical visions to the weird and the mystical on her second CD, This Guardian at Noon, but Blue Apples is a strong first album in its own right. Vyktoria has created her own distinctive style of woman folk that will appeal to fans of progressive rock as well. I feel proud for Northern Virginia that we have a homegrown singer of such artistry and grace as Vyktoria Pratt Keating. She deserves to be renowned far and wide for her music that comes from the heart and reaches the heart. ..."
Good beginning.

"This CD seems to be VPK's first release. I think her second release, This Guardian at Noon is better. Blue Apples seems to be too "produced"; too much background filler. I saw VPK as the opening act at a Tull concert and bought her CD (Guardian) right there at the theater during intermission. Guardian has more of VPK with her guitar(s) and voice wihout a lot of background junk. I am looking forward to her new CD and just saw that it has been released. You can find the title and go the VPK home page by first going to the Jtull.com home page and browsing around."
Soul Searching, Conscience Cleaning, Woman-Spirit

"VICKY PRATT KEATING - Kate Bush meets Ian Anderson, meets XTC, meets Nancy Griffith, meets Dr. Who? Listen to this CD. You won't forget her name (Vyktoria), nor will you forget her music! Her songs are planted in a musical garden that is all her own.Saw Vyktoria while backing up JETHRO TULL (Auditorium Theater, CHICAGO). She played a 30 minute set, using 3 guitars to cover a mixture of tunings. Her music is sensitive, compassionate and moving. Vyktoria's songs seem to explore her iner-most self, while odd time signatures and a mix of syncopation highlight her acoustic/folk/rock style. She's a soul searching, conscience cleaning, woman-spirit.Vyktoria, enter the new century, be here now. Hear her spirit, see her light. Her future is bright. Her future is now. Buy this CD, while you can. Also check out her second CD "This Garden At Noon"."
