"One of the highlights of this collection is the definitive version of that ode to nymphets everywhere, "Lolita Ya-Ya." Be warned: One listen to this reworking of the title theme to Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film and it will be coquetting through your head for days.Throughout their long career, The Ventures displayed flashes of real innovation. "The 2000 Pound Bee (Part One)," whose dirty fuzz guitar sounds more 1992 than 1962, is truly ahead of its time. Think Nirvana meets Sun City. This is worth the price of the album alone.Fans of "Walk, Don't Run" will not be disappointed as there are no less than three different versions of the instrumental chart-climber featured on this retrospective. "Walk, Don't Run `64" gets the full surf rock treatment, while the third rendition is coupled with a cover of Chris Kenner's seminal soul classic "Land of 1000 Dances" in a medley recorded live in concert. These are but a few of the many wonderful tunes here. The only downside of this album, and perhaps of The Ventures themselves, is that some of the songs sound the same. Nevertheless, this is one of the best collections of the group and is definitely a must for guitar afficionados and rock fans in general."
