Detroit was - and still is - a hotbed of American music, and the label you'd associate with Detroit would of course be Motown. However, it was the Anna Records label founded in 1958 that was a precursor to Motown, providing a platform for a number of America's greatest artists. Even though it was only in existence for less than half a decade it created the building blocks of the Motown empire, supporting the likes of Paul Gayter, Barrett Strong, Joe Tex and The Falcons.
