"This CD is the John Barry soundtrack to the epic movie, _Zulu_, which was released in the mid-1960s and which is still available on videocassette. As with the movie, the soundtrack is dramatic and will stir the pulse of anyone with blood in their veins. It is simply great "last ditch stand" music as befits the legendary defense of Rourke's Drift in 1879.Unfortunately, the Zulu war songs contained on this CD are not those you hear performed in the film. The CD versions were recorded in a sound-studio and remind one vaguely of the series of albums released during the latter stages of the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa. They are ear-pleasing in their own right, but they are simply not the bass-tone warrior chants used by the Zulus.The remainder of the CD is comprised of "other tunes" by John Barry which may be of interest to some, but it is the soundtrack of the movie which commands our attention and appreciation.This soundtrack album was originally released as a vinyl record at the same time as the feature film. It is a delight to see that it has been preserved and that it is still available over thirty years later."
