CD Reviews

Good - but there are other comps out there

"This is a solid compilation but far from being stellar. I like the Bossa Brava series a lot and think that this is a nice addition to the collection. However in a market almost saturated by "Nova Bossa" compilations from Italy, France, Germany and of course Brazil, I do not think that the strength of the songs are quite on par with some of the rest. For example, after listening to this compilation and say Jet Society by ESL, I would easily chose Jet Society. Or Boss-A-Troniq - I would choose Boss-A-Troniq. And the same could go for the Glucklich label and possible Schema's Break N Bossa Vol 4. What is a positive to this compilation is that it is a two disc set and you do actually get your money's worth. Solid songs with a nice tone and flow. But you're hard pressed not to find the top tracks on this compilation on other compilations that have (in general) better overall tracks. I would recommend this if you're a hard core Bossa-Brava collector. IT is a nice CD after all. But if you're into the new comps and don't have the choice to buy them all, you may want to just wait and pick up the new Break N Bossa Vol 5 that's coming out along with some of the new stuff arriving this summer."
The Bossa Brava Series is the Best--and the "First"

"I've gotta stick up for the Bossa Brava Series (Vols. 1-4, anyway)--each of them has a great mix of artists and they came out long, long before the current crush of compilations. They are much more "Acid Jazz" than "Bossa Nova Electronique". I'll always be grateful for them because they were pretty much all that was around when they came out, long before Glücklich, Schema's Break'n Bossa series and, Nicole Conte or Soulstance (although I LOVE them all too!). You'd probably find these in the Jazz section, not the dance/electronic section. They are all GREAT! Great hooks. Great beats. They introduced me to some great Acid Jazz groups. Highly Recommended."
