ELECTRICALLY RECORDED --Needle Type-- RECORDS
Annie Van Auken | Planet Earth | 01/15/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Due to a manufacture span of only 14 months, EDISON electrically recorded discs are some of the rarest of 78 rpm records, and thus are highly sought after by collectors. Beginning in 1992, DIAMOND CUT PRODUCTIONS began issuing on CDs this non-acoustic horn material from the EDISON company archives. The album called UNRELEASED EDISON LATERALS 1 was the initial result of their labors.

The music here is mostly gathered from one-of-a-kind test pressings and samples of limited production runs. This collection is primarily standard dance band fare, and feature the California Ramblers in several guises, as well as some other bands. Audio fidelity and record condition are pretty good for 1928-29. Liner notes are limited to a single page. Recommended for 78 collectors and fans of Roaring '20s dance music.

"This compilation contains music of varying types made by Edison at the end of their Recording endeavours. The sound quality is quite reasonable for masters made in the mid 1920's. I think that this may be a very important collectors item, since this stuff was never released til recently."
