CD Reviews

A very heavy and excellent mix
NEMESIS | gates of Midian, USA | 10/29/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This disc has some very good, adrenaline pumping tunes on it. I have a good portion of these songs already with the artist's regular cds. To anyone who reads this review know if the group Stemm has a disc out? The song "Face The Pain" which is the intro song of the UFC vids is a great rockin' tune. The group Scars Of Life is another one i'd like to pick up too. To me, just those 2 songs are worth the price of this hard rockin' disc. Of course you can't forget all the other great artists on here. Definately a great cd to lift weights to. Pick it up and blast it through the speakers."
Does not capture the essence of the UFC

"I bought this CD in hopes of getting a list of "pump-up", high-energy metal songs. I was hoping to get songs that portrayed what the UFC is all about. Hatebreed's "Live for This" was an excellent example. (Every drop of blood, every bitter tear, every bead of sweat, I live for this!). Stemm's "Face the Pain" was also a great song to represent the UFC. These two songs really gets your blood pumping, almost making you want to get in the Octagon to take on someone.

However, these were the only two songs that I truly enjoyed on the CD. I found that the rest of the songs didn't really seem to fit the mood of a UFC CD, and/or were just really mediocre.

For example, what was Killswitch Engage doing on the CD? Even though I am a fan of KsE, a hardcore/screamo band just doesn't belong on "Ultimate Beatdowns".

Another song that just didn't seem to fit was Damageplan's "Blunt Force Trauma". It seemed way to slow and quiet to capture that UFC mentality.

The rest of the song's on the CD couldn't keep my attention. I felt it was low-end metal. Lyrics that ramble on and on and music that fails to catch your ear. Slayer's "Warzone" was a big disappointment. Sounded like a bunch of noise in the background while someone yelled "WARZONE!" over and over again.

I wouldn't recommend buying this CD. Even if the songs are good metal, they're not UFC metal, if you know what I mean."
Awesome-Hard Driving Music

"As a HUGE fan of the UFC I couldn't resist getting the Ultimate Beatdowns CD. Great stuff! If you like heavy, driving metal rock, this is for you. I would get rid of the stupid Roman song in the beginning, as it is the most dissonant piece of music I have heard. I know it is the UFC intro, but MAN, someone should have checked the harmony lines before doing that piece. Ack. Otherwise, great. Perfect for workouts or days to get "psyched up" with....WOO HOO!"
