CD Reviews

Why do these people fail to recognize...?
Nails in My Head | 02/28/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Well, those who have reviewed it before me don't seem to enjoy their purchase. Well, that doesn't matter in the slightest. I will start of by thanking TVT for such a fantastic experience. Anyway, time to get to the inside of the silver lining...

The Cd starts off with a BANG in your head. A not so dancable, but nevertheless undeniably melodic redition of Terrible Lie a la Slick Idiot. The Previous reviewers mentioned KMFDM, but it's sans Sascha, Skold, Watts (though he'll appear later), or any of the KMFDM sound. Utterly unfunny, En Esche's growl has never been more appropriate. I dislike the Work of Suenter and Esche after KMFDM except for this song. Amazing.

Coming in at #2, we have Rosetta Stone covering Closer. OK, but it fails to bring anything new except a darker sound and a shorter song. Seeing as I'm not a rosetta fan, don't let me turn you off to it, though.

Next we have another highlight: A fantastic cover of "SIN" (my favorite off PHM) perforemd by the ever changing Razed in Black. One of the best here. Utterly different, and infinitely more suited for the dancefloor, this thing won't get out of your head. Thanks, Rommel.

The Shining cover of "Something I can Never Have" is another changed song. I love it when this happens. A soft, mournful song became a hard, accusatory anthem. But considering he's from Nitzer Ebb, what can you expect?

"That's what I get". Too much guitar for my taste for such a song, but the singing is so much better than anything Trent could ever do. Also, i would have made it faster, but hey, that's just me. Clever.

Thanks to 16 Volt.

Now here i just smile and smile. PIG's redition of "Head like a Hole" makes you see the mayhem of when Watts opened for NIN all over again, but much more jazz thrown in. If you don't see the undying humor in this song, you are not a music fan. Oh, did i mention in this version that the lyrics make sense?

"The Perfect Drug" via Die Krupps is a little uninspired. A very UnMetal Song turned to the Guitar. But good headrush chorus. Hard to sit still listening to the first 3 minutes.

Haha. "Satrf*ckers Inc" From RB. Lives up to the "Sin" cover, and then more so. I forgive the metal sound here cuz to remove it would be spitting in Reznor's face. Amazing, dancy, sexy, and well sung.

"Piggy" from Sigue Sigue Sputnik is good, again with the damnable guitar, but i can forgive them because Trent did the same thing with his remixes of it, so i guess that's what he wanted in retrospect. Coulda used the drum solo thing.

"Heresy" by the Electric Hellfire Club. 'nuff said.

"Mr. Self Destruct." The Candymachines (again, not a favorite of mine, but hey, maybe you) slowed it down, made is grungy and sexed it up. Her voice is great. What a differecne, and a nice change from the razor sharp work of the EHC.

The NewlyDeads finish with another "Terrible Lie" cover. I would have preferred ending iwth the better, more powerful cover from Slick Idiot, but if works. Very Aggo. Hot for Tool fans. But tool is lame.
