Synopsis

Album Description
The success of Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier and Brian Holland as songwriters and producers was virtually unparalleled during the 60?s. Their style epitomized all that was "The Motown Sound" with songs like "I Can?t Help Myself", "Heatwave" and "Stop! In The Name Of Love". A phenomenal run of hits followed ?Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, The Isley Brothers , Jr. Walker & The All Stars, Smokey Robinson and The Supremes were among the major Motown roster to benefit. While compilations celebrating the stars who recorded the work of Holland Dozier / Holand have been plentiful over the years, few have been an acknowledgment of the team themselves. This tribute acknowledges that the songs behind all the great artists who interpreted them still stand strong to this day. Furthermore, this particular collection is a rare opportunity to hear the former stars of Motown pay tribute to each other on special interpretations among the 21 classic songs included here. This special! occasion unites these former Motown artists, for the first time in some 25 years. These historic sessions took place in Detroit, Los Angeles and in the UK in the mid-80?s and early 90?s and would have not been possible if not for the efforts of English producer Ian Levine whose idea it was to reunite these former Motown stars, realizing brand new recordings of the classic hits. Since he couldn?t fulfill one of his lifelong dreams and actually buy the Motown label, he started the Motorcity label specifically for the purpose of keeping the flame alive and as a testament to the great artists who brought these classic songs to life.

"Great stuff from the old Motorcity label - and the best tribute to the great Motown songwriters on the market. Nice recordings and plenty of tracks to boot - highly worthwhile. Very nice to see this stuff on CD again - informative liners on these rare tracks as well. If you love the Motown sound - this CD will be a welcome addition to your collection."
