Though in the Jazz world recordings of LOU DONALDSON, PUCHO AND HIS LATIN SOUL BROTHERS, JACK McDUFF and other geniuses of the BLUE NOTE label would epitomize this sound, this compilation focuses on a RAW BREED version of boogaloo that is not so far removed from its Latin American roots... though the name RAY BARETTO will definitely ring a bell even amoung those less familiar with the other groups on this compilation that includes JOE CUBA SEXTETTE, LA PLAYA SEXTETTE, ORQUESTA BROADWAY, FREDDIE RODRIGUEZ, WILLIE ROSARIO and KAKO... From the recognizable (a crazy Cuban party version of Happy Birthday, Oye Como Va (with some great vibes !) and even GREENSLEEVES.... to the rare ultra groove funk of PREZ PRADO and BOBBY MARIN's psychadelic delight TIGHTROPE... let me quote myself and say, this is definitely the quintesential sampling DJs wet dream... perfect for any DJ, party or fan of Latin, Boogaloo and '60s rare groove soul !"
