CD Reviews

For the Christian who loves grunge music

"What a disappointment. And this from Maranatha! The song selections are the lure but after my purchase, I was so disappointed that the songs were recorded in the alternative music genre. The recording artists sound awkward and I don't recommend using this for any type of worship atmosphere. It's very distracting.Sorry but that's what I felt."
Not THAT bad!!!

"Yes, I'll admit... this isn't the BEST praise and worship collection I've heard. In their attempt to stylize some of the songs the songs lost their power. But, some of the arrangements are very good! All of the tracks are studio recordings. And although there are some (very few) tracks that have a modern rock/alt. flavor, there is absolutely no GRUNGE on the whole CD... hehe. Some highlights are "Let It Rise," a Stevie Wonder-esque version of a P&W classic. Has a great groove, we sing this arrangement in our church. "All Things Are Possible," "Come, Now Is The Time," "Open The Eyes of My Heart," and "In the Secret" are great recordings and do not stray far from how we have always heard them. Yes, there are some strange tracks, but I applaud Maranatha for trying to bring some new life to songs that have recorded by everyone! I'm giving this CD five stars, not because it is that good, but to counteract the unfair one star ratings. (I would rate it 3 otherwise)."
For alternative music lovers only

"I hardly recognized some of the songs on this CD; lured by the great selection, I bought the split track version for group use at my bible study, but found many of the tracks quite unusable. I have heard, own, and love many updated/modern versions of worship songs -- for example, I love SonicFlood and the "Worship Together" collections -- but I found many of the arrangements on this album simply unattractive and distracting. Even if you like them, you may have trouble singing along, as the uncomfortable keys do not lend themselves well to participation...even the singers, many of which have a very distinctive grunge-band sound, are heard to strain painfully at times. A higher percentage of mainstream treatments, or at least a clearer indication of the nature of the album, would have been welcome."
