Tahitian Dancing/Tamure Fun!
M. Kalaveras | San Mateo, CA United States | 10/24/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been hanging around the Polynesian Dance community in the SF Bay Area for over 20+ years. I even danced with a Polynesian dance school and we participated in solo and group competition at the annual "Tahiti Fete" held in San Jose every year. I really love the culture and dance of the Tahitian people. So when I got married, my husband took me to Tahiti (of course!) and the Marquesas for our honeymoon. We boarded the freight ship, Aranui, to take us to the Marquesas and every night in the cocktail lounge, the ship's sailors and staff would gather their 8 string "uks" (ukuleles or mandolins, as some may call them) and jam all night long! The music on this CD reflects what I heard and danced to while on the Aranui, and it reminds me of the wonderful people we met and the beautiful places we visited while enroute to the Marquesas. I swear, sometimes I could hear Coco, the bartender, yell out, "Aita peapea! (Don't worry!)", while listening to this CD!When I became pregnant with our first son, we would bring him to dance practices so he could hear the drums and uks jamming. Like me, he loves the music!Today, we have two young boys, I'm no longer dancing, the Tahiti Fete only comes but once a year and until my kids get old enough whereas we can take them to Tahiti and the Marquesas (via the freight ship), the music on this CD will quench my thirst for fun and lively Tahitian music! Tamure on!"
Excellent CD, Great Polynesian Songs!

"We heard some of the songs in our recent trip to Bora Bora and Tahiti. I searched all over and found this CD. It really is a great collection.

Our favorite songs: Bora Bora Nui and Aroha E 'Aloha Oe' (both by Kaina Boys)

Buy it, you won't regret it!"
Perfect for our luau

"We hosted a luau for 40+ people in our backyard and I was looking for some appropriate background music. I'm pretty fussy when it comes to details: for the music, I didn't want sleepy-time, lazy background music, which I found to be a common theme in my search for "island tropical" music. This Tahiti Kaina Party music was perfect. The songs were upbeat for the most part and very tropical. I can't remember if there were any instrumentals, but I think it was all vocals for the most part. I also purchased "Tahiti Dances" here on Amazon, which was mostly tropical percussion - I could just picture flame-throwing tiki dancers when I listened to the samples. Together, those two albums were perfect for our luau. It was a nice mix of tropical sounds with a definite upbeat party-twist.

Just to note, I bought both of these island albums via Amazon's MP3 store. The checkout/installation process couldn't have been easier or friendlier. Within 1/2 hour I had both albums downloaded to my PC (I'm on DSL). You also get a free song when you install Amazon's MP3 downloader."
