(3 out of 5 stars)

"I hate to disagree with previous reviewers, but this is pretty much a hit or miss affair (as is the case with most cover/tribute albums). I'd actually give it 3 1/2 stars. After one complete spin, you'll make a mental note of your favorite track numbers and skip over about 1/3 of each disc. But hey, under 10 bucks on a used 2 cd set....that ain't too bad (you'll be unhappy if you drop 20 bucks for new). It's a great way to sample many of these bands and check out their chops. Trying to breath life into 70's classics ain't that easy; yet some of these bands pull it off. Standouts include Spirit Caravan kicking the sh&t out of Sabbath's "Wicked World"; history will show Wino is God and not Clapton. Novadriver's cover of T-Rex's "20th Century Boy" rocks heavy, really heavy (especially if
you can get the obnoxious Mitsubishi commercial out of your memory). On the negative flip, Raging Slab's attempt at Grand Funk's "American Band" is flat out brutal; the drummer can't get the intro drum pattern correct and the lead guitar makes Mark Farner's original leads seem like Hendrix. All in all a decent collection for anyone interested in
samplin' some stoner and interested in making further purchases in the stoner genre (did I just say genre?).
If you've
got Stoner.com bookmarked on your browser this 2 cd set is no brainer for you."
The Best of "Stoner Rock" does the 70's

"Very Impressive. Some great underground bands covering 70's rock staples. This CD rocks and would appeal to anyone who digs classic rock or the so called "Stoner" genre. Most of the songs are true to the originals but with a harder edge. Some of my favorites include Clutch's cover of Jethro Tull's "Cross Eyed Mary", Five Horse Johnson's cover of Mountain's "Never in My Life", The Brought Low's version of the Rolling Stones' "Till the Next Goodbye" and Roadsaw's version of Ides of March's "Vehicle". Throw on your bell bottoms, light a fatty and be prepared to trip through time. This 2 disc set is fuzzed-out bliss that comes highly recommended!!!"

"Incredible 2-disc compilation. 95% of the songs rule, and other 5% are still tolerable. Almost 40 terrific rock bands of today play some of the best songs of the 1970s, and the result will impress you. Especially watch out for covers by Suplecs, Five Horse Johnson, Scott Reeder (Unida, ex-Kyuss, ex-Obsessed), Throttlerod, Alabama Thunderpussy, Clutch, and Raging Slab. If you're still a big fan of the vinyl age of rock-n-roll, "Sucking the 70s" is for you."
