"This is a nicely recorded, well-performed album -- and it gives the listener the opportunity to hear the masterfully-written songs of Jack Hardy performed by other artists (OK -- Jack sings one cut himself). Over the past few years, 'tribute' albums have been appearing more and more frequently -- it's nice that this one, dedicated to the work of one of the finest songwriters of our time, was put together.All of the songs are stellar compositions -- it amounts to a bit of a 'greatest hits' collection. Most of the performers aren't very well known outside of the New England area (with the notable exceptions of Lucy Kaplansky, The Roche sisters and of course Jack himself) -- but they're all fine artists, and the songs all receive nice treatments.I still prefer Jack's own versions of his songs -- but ANY good recordings of his work should be heard by a wider audience, and this could serve to introduce some new listeners to his art."
