Mid-tempo dance hits that made "Steppin'" a cult dance craze
Justo Roteta | Los Angeles, California United States | 06/27/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"In Chicago and St. Louis, "Steppin'" is a classy dance that is immensely popular with the "25 and over" crowd. Most of the songs here became cult dance classics and are from the late 1970s and early 80s."
The Good Grooves

"I can't beieve no-one's reviewed this CD! If you like smooth sounds, then you'll love this. Steppin' music is mellow R&B dance music (with just a touch of jazz), and it's incredibly listenable. I'm a big fan of soul, especially '70s, and I like a lot of dance music (from underground disco to House). Steppin music is a beautiful hybrid of styles, and it's pretty diverse - from Keni Burke's funk to the sweet soul of the Spinners. This CD has some fine moments (the first couple of tracks, as well as Staten Island Groove and Soft and Easy are sensual, catchy grooves), but the overall consistency is its best feature. Sure, maybe it could do without the Phil Collins remix, but there's such a diversity of material here, that how well it works together is part of its pleasure. And any CD that starts off with two of the most laid back songs ever made has to be a must."
