Synopsis

Amazon.com
For a look at Broadway at the beginning of the 21st century, Show Stoppers, Too! is a reasonably priced, 21-song, 78-minute compilation of recent recordings from DRG Records. That includes popular revivals (Wonderful Town starring Donna Murphy, Little Shop of Horrors, Flower Drum Song), a new London import (Boy George's Taboo), and one-woman shows (Elaine Stritch's Tony winner, Barbara Cook, Bea Arthur). One could forever debate the merits of a revival recording compared to the original, or the need for a heavily changed "revisal" of Flower Drum Song, but that these recordings exist to debate at all is largely because DRG and other small labels have stepped in to fill the increasingly cavernous void in show music left by the major labels. For that, fans owe them a considerable debt of gratitude. --David Horiuchi

CD Reviews

Quite good for recent compilation CD

(4 out of 5 stars)

"First, let me say I basically agree with what David Horiuchi said above and hats off to DRG...again. Actually I wanted to give it 4 and a half stars, only deducting for the Bea Arthur tracks...in my opinion not a great singer or actress and they could have included a few more actual songs. Barbara Cook is for nostalgia fans..as she really was much better when younger..but Elaine Stritch gives nothing away..her acting, her spirit, and yes..even her singing is still top notch. The musical selections are all good and represent excellent value for this type of compilation."
