"The Secret Museum series trots the globe unearthing indigenous sounds from the early 20th century, showcasing exotic voices and curious instruments, on recordings taken from rare 78's. From locales as distant as Mongolia, India, Angola, Poland, the Congo and more, you'll get chills hearing the Yma Sumac-in outer space wail of female Turkish vocalist Hamiyet Yuceses, or the gutteral groans emitted by Mongolian diphonic throat singer Chimiddorzh Ghanzuryin. Even though this stuff predates the jet age, you'll be amazed to hear how cultures' sounds still into each other effortlessly; some of the African guitarists here show leanings into hillbilly and even Hawaiian stylings. This is some of the purest music on CD."
