CD Reviews

The movement of time
Rob Bray | Salem, Oregon | 01/11/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I actually bought Seascapes when it originally came out as an LP and hope that I'm able to find the CD soon (out of stock at the moment). What I like most about this particular recording is that it allows for the passage of time. Rather than giving the listener a snapshot of waves breaking on the shoreline, Dan Gibson starts this sound experience with only the very light trickle of small waves on the shore mixed with the distant sound of a fog horn. For the next hour the listener experiences the slow approach of a storm. The waves grow in intesity and seagulls react to the sound of distant thunder. By the end of the hour, the storm has passed but the waves remain much larger than at the outset. I have bought other, more recent, recordings of the ocean but have been disappointed as none of them seem to have the quality of sound nor capture the movement of time quite like Seascapes. Please have this CD in stock soon."

"This cd from the solitudes series offers every imaginable sound of the sea. From gentle lappers to crashing waves you will hear it all and it is just nature sounds no music. You also hear some seagulls in this selection as well. There are about 5 or 6 loud nearby foghorns on this cd.These sound much different than the distant ones on Ultimate Seashore. To top it off there is even a thunderstorm. The waves seem to crash more when the storm occurs which makes it very relaxing.Pick this one up with Ultimate Seashore for the perfect marine experiance. If you like Thunderstorms accompined by Ocean Waves you may also want to pick up Thunder By The Sea.I also recommend Thunderstorm In The Wilderness also from the Solitudes series as well as Windsong from the solitude series which features windchimes accompined by ocean waves on track 2."

"I own this cd and I love it.Sea-scapes from Dan Gibsons Solitudes series features changing moods of the sea. This cd starts off with a light surf ususlly one you would here in the morning. The light surf is accompined by a distant foghorn. The foghorn is heard about 10 times and on the 10th the surf starts getting heavier.Seagulls are heard. The surf keeps building until you here loud claps of thunder over the ocean.I was suprised you could here thunder over the loud roar of the waves but it is louder.During the storm the waves get especially intense. You here them crashing on rocks. This cd is so pristine if you listen carefully you can here a wave break in the distance. This cd makes it sound like your on the ocean especially when you turn the base on on your cd player. If you like the sound of the ocean you must get this cd."
