"Approximately 70 min. Remastered sound. This, and it's counterpart,Volume 2-City,make up two important sets which contain some of the finest female singers to ever record. A few of the tracks are by relatively known singers. People like Lottie Kimbrough,Bertha Lee,Memphis Minnie, and the fabulous Geechie Wiley. While you might not have heard any of the others, they are certainly their equal. Accompanied by piano and on some tracks guitar, the voices are whats important here. The subject matter ranges from the consequences of drinking to the parting of lovers to travelling songs. Actually, this is the kind of recording that has to be heard to be appreciated-no words could adequately describe the emotions and voices of the singers. This set and it's companion make up some of the most important female recordings of the 1920's. Your library of blues is still incomplete if you don't have these albums. You will find yourself returning to these over again."
